Jupiter Scientific Book Wins Another Prize
In March, Reader Views designated Jupiter Scientific's children's book
The Adventure of Thomas the Turtle by Stuart Samuel (author)
and Nathaniel Dailey (illustrator) as a 2018 Reviewer Choice Award.
In addition, the book received the “Be Kind to Animals Prize” from Feathered Quill Book Reviews.
As part of that prize,
Samuel was interviewed by Holly Connors.
Connors also praised Dailey for the book's lovely illustrations.
On May 7, The Adventure of Thomas the Turtle was honored again:
A 2018 Distinguished Favorite Independent Press Award in the category of picture book for all ages.
The competition was judged by experts in the book industry, including publishers, writers and editors.
The competition attracted impressive worldwide participation from countries such as
Australia, Canada, England, Russia, India, Japan, and, of course, the United States.
It is quite unusual for a book to win more than one prize.
Jupiter Scientific is honored and the author and illustrator are, needless to say, delighted.
The Adventure of Thomas the Turtle is
about a turtle named Thomas who lives in a tranquil pond with his sister Sally and mother Myrtle.
Years earlier, Thomas's father disappeared when he entered a region of the pond
that Myrtle calls the "forbidden region."
Thomas has been told by her not to venture there,
but one day Thomas swims too close and is swept over a waterfall and downstream.
It is a frightening experience for him as he struggles to battle different forces of nature.
He ends up far from home but is determined to be reunited with this family.
However, his heroic effort is thwarted when he gets caught in a thicket.
By chance, a boy and girl find him.
The boy suggests taking Thomas home but the girl believes
that the turtle is probably heading to the nearby pond.
So Thomas with the help of the two children succeeds in returning home.
The Adventure of Thomas the Turtle stresses
determination, faith, bravery, adversity, family values and filial obedience.
Parents will enjoy reading the touching story to their 5-to-9-year-old children
for its exciting adventure and strong moral messages.
