FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Artwork of Jupiter Scientific Illustrator to Be on Display in Museum
The Museum of Children's Art (MOCHA) is presenting
its annual "Then & Now Exhibition" featuring the works of more
than 25 children's book illustrators. Among the exhibitors
is Stuart Samuel, who wrote and illustrated the counting picture
book entitled One! Two! Three! This Book 's for Me!, which
is being published by Jupiter Scientific. Artwork from the book
has been selected for display.
One interesting aesthetic aspect is how images
on different pages are connected by various elements such a red farm fence, a
rugged mountain range, a dark brown barn with a red roof, and
what-seem-to-be personified trees and clouds. The pictures are simple, use
bold colors, and are especially designed to appeal to the young child.
The "Then & Now Exhibition" takes
place from September 17 to December 31 in MOCHA, located
at 538 Ninth Avenue in downtown Oakland. The museum is open Tuesday through
Saturday from 10-6 and Saturdays from noon to 5 pm. A reception
on Oct 5 from 5-7 pm is open to the public
and children are welcome to attend. For more information, call 510-465-8770
or visit the website http://www.mocha.org.
One! Two! Three! This Book 's for Me! teaches
the 2-3 year-old toddler about numbers, colors, the alphabet
and a host of other important early-learning issues. For the 4-5 year
old, the book assists the parent in teaching a child to read by
simplifying the process: It uses catchy repetitive phrases, is written
entirely in capital letters with consistently color-coded text, has
rhythmic, rhyming sentences, and places small images beneath certain words
as a reading aid. It also features a nice word/picture glossary. For more
information, see http://www.jupiterscientific.org/123/.
The book can be ordered from
Amazon.com or by calling the Book Clearing House at 800-431-1579
and will be in bookstores in November.
